UTAH DENTAL HYGIENE MONTH PROCLAMATION
It was my pleasure to spend an hour with members of our Board of Trustees and Legislative Committee on November 2 nd, at the Capital and the Governors Office, where he signed a proclamation declaring October Utah’s Dental Hygiene Month. This was last done about 10 years ago. Present were Debra Danel, Sheri Eurick, Karol Aldrich, Doug Smithey, Melinda Tate, Amber Randall, Judy Evans, Hiedi Brickey, Amy Carpenter, and Alison Carlisi to witness the signing and speak briefly with the Governor.
It was clear from that brief interaction, that though we have made great strides this year, we have much work to do to educate the public about what a Dental Hygienist is. Though it is not available yet, photos were taken, and even Channel 2 News was there taping our event. As soon as they are posted on the Governors web site, we will add this photo to our web page.
It is vitally important to our profession that Dental Hygienists take every opportunity to let their patients and the public know who we are, how we are educated, and what we do. Displaying your license in your work space is the law, and is the first step that every Dental Hygienist can take, to set yourself apart, and help patients understand the dedication it takes to provide this essential preventative service. This proclamation was one of the many things the Utah Dental Hygienists Association has done this year to further this goal of educating the public. Thank you to Sheri Eurick for drafting this proclamation!
