"Charting the Course of Change: Coaching Self-Care Practices"

2:00pm - 5:00pm
Have you ever asked: "What keeps my patients from doing what they know they need to do for themselves? Or ever said, "I tell my patients exactly what they need to do, and they don't do it!" Traditional "diagnosis and treat," or "educate and lecture," methods have shown little or, at best sporadic success. Since over half of what determines wellness is lifestyle choices, implementing effective ways of changing behavior is paramount. This program is tailored specifically for oral health professionals and explores coaching practices and evidence based change principles.

As a practicing clinician, industry consultant, international speaker, wellness coach and author, Kristine A. Hodsdon RDH, BS has spent over 20 years building on what is right and supporting change through her articles and lectures to thousands of dental professionals.

She has authored the collaborative book, Demystifying Smiles: Strategies for the Dental Team, the first aesthetic chapter in, Mosby's Dental Hygiene: Concepts, Cases and Competencies, 2nd Edition and continues to actively publish in dental and dental hygiene journals. She is involved in numerous professional organizations, including the National Speaker's Association, American Dental Hygienists'' Association and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

In 1994 Kristine was appointed by Republican Governor Steve Merrill to a 3 year term on the New Hampshire Board of Dental Examiners, and in 1997 Democratic Governor Jeanne Shahenn re-appointed her to a 5 year term.

For 4 years, Kristine authored a monthly column in RDH Magazine, a PennWell Corporation publication. Since 2005, she has been the Director of the RDH eVillage. The RDH eVillage has a circulation of over 32,000. Her goal is to establish the RDH eVillage as the leading interactive on-line media with relevant and new content. Kristine's mission is to champion wellbeing and performance by focusing on what is working and by co-creating with patients, colleagues, respected leaders and associations.

Course Objectives:
Discover the incredible resource of coaching and use it to purposefully accelerate patients' successes.
Understand and integrate evidence based behavioral change principles into your patients' self care practices.
Learn the basics of appreciative inquiry, setting SMART goals and motivational interviewing for optimal results.
