UDHA Member Heading to Africa
We're very excited for UDHA's own member and ADHA delegate Amanda Farris for heading to Africa this month! We asked her a few questions about her year long trip to Ghana.
Where are you headed?
I'm going to Accra, Ghana. I'm going to be starting dental hygiene out there, serving the community, and training a hygienist.
How did you find out about this opportunity?
I got this opportunity by talking to Angie Stone. (As a student at the UDHA convention after she spoke, I went up and chatted with her and asked to friend her on FB). She started a hygiene placement business and posted an opportunity on her page. I reached out to her and applied for the job. After a few interviews with the Ghana team I got it.
What inspired you to go?
I've always dreamed of doing humanitarian work abroad and have dreamed of doing that since I was a child. I just didn't know hygiene would take me there. I love culture and travel so it is a win win.
When do you leave?
I leave July 28th.
How can others support you on your journey?
People can bring supplies to the going away party (see invite above), and if they cannot attend they are welcome to stop by my place and drop off whatever they want. Just asking to not donate toothpaste. It's too heavy to take. My address is 2136 E. Silverstone Circle Sandy, UT 84093.
