Legislation

Danyelle Evans, RDH

This presentation will equip dental hygienists with essential knowledge regarding the legislative forces shaping our profession, both locally in Utah and nationally. We will delve into recent legislative updates impacting dental hygiene practice and public oral health initiatives within our state. Furthermore, we will critically examine the nationwide trend of organized dentistry challenging established educational standards and licensure for dental hygienists, exploring the implications for patient safety, quality of care, and professional autonomy. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of the legislative process, key advocacy tools, and a renewed sense of empowerment to actively protect and advance the vital role of dental hygienists.

Periodontal Therapy with a Purpose

Shelley Brown, MEd, RDH, FADHA

When we instrument we do it methodically and with purpose. From biofilm control, and calculus removal to reduction of inflammatory mediators, it can’t all be done with one tool.  This course focuses  on a variety of methods that improve the outcomes of periodontal therapies. One specifically is the innovative use of sulfonated phenolics through desiccation technology —a novel class of compounds known for their potent antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as the removal of the root surface smear layer.   Participants will gain a thorough understanding of how this therapeutic adjunct can be effectively integrated into periodontal treatment plans to achieve superior clinical outcomes.
