A Letter from The Utah Oral Health Coalition- Public Comment Needed

The Reagan-Udall Foundation for the FDA, in cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration, is convening a hybrid public meeting on July 23 to gather input on the clinical use and safety concerns associated with fluoride supplements. In reality, this hearing is part of the attack on fluorides and this hearing will likely have implications for community water fluoridation and ALL types of fluoride products.  The panels are stacked with speakers who will claim fluoride exposure affects neurodevelopment and IQ, thyroid function, and gut microbiome, but just a few of us refuting those claims and speaking in defense of fluorides for caries prevention and control as used in the United States.

It is critical for those interested in preserving safe and effective oral health prevention products and strategies to SUBMIT PUBLIC COMMENT and attend this hybrid hearing, if possible.  The link to submit comments and register is below:

Please send online written public comments:

There are ~5 more days to submit online written public comments, with them due by next Wednesday 7/16/25.

Again, the more comments submitted by us the better, as they show support for fluoride and become part of the official record of the meeting — numbers count, along with content!

And the submissions do NOT need to be things that are perfected final products that take many hours to draft and edit multiple times. They can be relatively simple and short.  They can address just 1 of the 4 areas below with a couple of sentences, or they can address several or all 4 of the areas:

         1) Clinical Use and Prescribing Considerations for Pediatric Tooth Decay Prevention

        2) Safety Concerns

        3) Appropriateness of Pediatric Use Considering Additional Sources of Exposure

       4)  Impact of Removal of Orally Ingestible Unapproved Prescription Drug Products/Potential Alternatives

Send online written public comments and try to identify and recruit others to submit written comments also. Note that comments from patients/parents and other “non-dental” submitters are especially valuable!

See the full information at this link to the Federal Register and use the link in the green box to the right on the first “page” to “submit a public comment” in writing:

Please register to attend the conference, whether in-person or online.

Note that the more who are signed up and attend, the stronger the message of support for dietary fluoride supplements and, by extension, all fluoride modalities/products for caries prevention.

Conversely, if few people participate as attendees, then it will be easier for FDA/HHS leadership opposed to fluoride to reduce access to fluoride modalities and say that few people cared.

Even if you are not 100% sure you can attend the meeting, or even if you can only attend a small portion of it, please sign up and have your friends and colleagues sign up, because the numbers of registrants/attendees matter. If you register, you will be on the list to have access to the meeting materials, report, etc.
